Morden Bike Share Launched!

The City of Morden has started a Bike Share program with two locations! The goal of the project is to promote active recreation and active transportation. The Bike Share will hopefully provide opportunity for people to take an active lunch break or to take active transportation to an off-site meeting, or a before or after work bike ride. It will be a great amenity for tourists, and for family and friends that come to visit.

The bikes are available for FREE, 7 days a week from either Morden Drugstore (3 bikes) or Video Visions (4 bikes). Bikes must be reserved in advance online at morden.myturn.com or by contacting the Access Event Centre Office (204-822-5431 ext.206, mordenbikeshare@mymorden.ca). A credit or debit card number is required on your account to reserve bikes.

Once reserved you can pick up your bike at the location selected where you reserved. You will get a key for the bike lock which you return once you are finished your bike ride. The suggested time frame is up to 3 hours, but bikes can be used for a full day. There are no overnight bike rentals permitted at this time. Anyone age 18+ can borrow a bike, and ages 14-17 can borrow a bike under adult supervision.

Helmets are available for loan with the bikes and are sanitized after each use. Helmets are recommended for all, but only required for ages 17 and under. The bikes were sourced from Country Cycle and will also be maintained by them.

β€œThe Morden Bike Share program is a great opportunity for the community and our visitors. Stephanie is always looking for additional ways to help get people active, this program offers a great opportunity,” shared Clare Agnew, director of Community Services.

Morden Bike Share is free to use because of the generous sponsors of the project! Project sponsors are: Healthy Living Together- Southern Health Grant, Manitoba Build 150, Government of Manitoba, James Richardson & Sons Ltd, Morden Area Foundation and City of Morden. Morden Drugstore and Video Visions have made the program possible by facilitating the loans out of their businesses which are open 7 days a week.

β€œI’m thankful for the sponsors that made this project possible. The bikes are so comfortable and easy to ride, I’m hoping lots of residents and visitors will take advantage of the bikes before winter comes!” commented Stephanie Dueck, Rec Programmer for City of Morden.
