π£ Update regarding ice shack seasonal pass:
Due to concerns brought forward regarding the fee for ice shack access to Lake Minnewasta which was approved by By-Law No. 03-2023 on February 27, 2023, Council for the City of Morden has made the decision to place the $75.00 fee on hold for further discussion.
The City will further review costs associated with providing recreational services at Lake Minnewasta and re-visit the discussion for summer/winter vehicle passes to ensure the cost is distributed equitably to all users.
Morden, December 19, 2023 - The City of Morden would like to announce a new requirement for all permanent ice shacks at Lake Minnewasta. Beginning this season, all permanent ice shacks will be required to purchase a season pass. The fees collected through these passes will directly contribute to covering the maintenance costs associated with ice fishing, including clearing snow and ensuring safe conditions for ice fishers.
The season passes can be conveniently purchased at the Campground Office located at Lake Minnewasta on weekdays between 8 am and 4 pm. The cost of the pass is $75, including tax. It is important to note that the fee is per shack.
"We are introducing the seasonal passes to ensure the ongoing maintenance and safety of the lake," stated Brian Thiessen, Campground Manager. "The fees collected through these passes will directly cover the costs associated with clearing snow to maintain safe access to the lake through the boat launch a safe environment for all ice fishers."
The City of Morden appreciates the cooperation of all ice shack owners in adhering to this new requirement. By working together, we can ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all residents and visitors at Lake Minnewasta.
