VALLEY FIBER SERVICE BUILDING

This is an update about Valley Fiber’s rollout across the City of Morden, specifically about a service building that is required to be built. As you might be aware, Valley Fiber is rolling out across the City of Morden with dedicated fiber lines direct to your home. You might have already seen the Valley Fiber flags going up as they begin preparing to install the first section of homes in Morden! We as a city are very excited to see some of our historically under-serviced areas getting access to fiber internet speeds.

In order to facilitate the installation of these fiber lines Valley Fiber requested assistance from the city in the placement of a service building which will house core equipment for the fiber network. Based on the requirements for this building, a small 65-foot wide by 60-foot deep site in the North-East corner of Lion’s Park has been determined to be a viable location for this service building. This will accommodate a 1,000 square foot service building with driveway access to Gilmour Street. The appearance is to be that of a nondescript garage, similar to other service buildings the city has around Morden. The building shouldn’t have any impact on the playground structures, the soccer fields, or any other activities that take place in Lion’s Park.

Because it is city-owned parkland there are several steps required to complete the process which includes a by-law to close a public reserve (that 65-foot wide and 60-foot deep corner of Lion’s Park). The first reading of this by-law took place during the July Morden City Council Meeting and those living nearby should be receiving notices in the mail shortly. Subsequent readings of the by-law will take place this month before proceeding. If you have any questions or concerns, or would like to speak to this by-law, please contact info@mymorden.ca for more information.

If you have questions about this process don’t hesitate to contact the city, we are excited to see Valley Fiber making progress and anticipate a flurry of activity to be coming along very soon!
