Visitors to Lake Minnewasta recreation area will notice new amenities at the all-season outdoor space this year, thanks in large part to a $184,369 investment from The Government of Canada. The newest additions to the outdoor recreation space include an all-season washroom facility and an additional picnic shelter. Federal funding for the projects was secured through the Canada Community Revitalization Fund (CCRF), which is administered in Manitoba by Prairies Economic Development Canada.
“Lake Minnewasta saw increased usage during the pandemic as people tried to stay active and connected to their community through outdoor activities,” shared Clare Agnew, Director of Community Services. The year-round washrooms allow the city to plan events and ensure washroom facilities in all weather conditions.
“We had one picnic shelter available for the public to use that was always busy,” commented Brian Thiessen, Campground Manager. “It’ll be great to have additional space for families or groups to relax and enjoy their picnic lunch.” Additional funding for the picnic shelter was received from the Morden Elks Lodge.
The Canada Community Revitalization Fund was created to help communities rebound from the COVID-19 pandemic. The fund assists non-profit organizations, municipalities, community groups, and Indigenous communities across Canada to build and improve community infrastructure projects. The CCRF is a two-year, $500 million national infrastructure program to revitalize communities across Canada.

Today’s support will establish a new all-season washroom and picnic shelter at Lake Minnewasta to help create a welcoming space where people can connect, enjoy the outdoors and make lasting memories.”
